Why do we need values?

Have you ever thought about your values? Family Values? Team Values?

Where do we even start? Why do I even need to talk about values?

I understand all of these questions. Let me tell you, they will help. Having a set of values to fall back on supports a foundation for communication. There are different types of values and I’m going to focus on a core 3 for us:

Physical values - regard to physical objects, work and one's environment

Interpersonal (social) values - express in relationships with other people

Psychological values - one aspires to realize in one's own personality & inner being

Questions to ask yourself/your athlete:

  • What’s most important in your life?

  • What does success mean to you?

  • What excites you into action?

  • What qualities do you admire in others?

  • When do you feel most proud of yourself?

Along with the questions to examine ideas for values, understanding personality is important. I encourage everyone to take the Meyers-Briggs Test to look at what might be driving or holding a person back. It is an evidence-based test and used all over the world. Here is a quick visual of the different "typies"

I have no affiliation or compensation for the MBTI. I simple share it as a quality resource for self-exploration.
